the Greek philosopher Socrates encouraged us to examine ourselves 'the unexamined life is not worth living.'
in theory I would agree but after spending a month trying trying to start this project and thinking about myself and awful lot I've come to the conclusion that ignorance is Bliss
the philosopher Rene Discartes coined the phrase 'I think therefore I am.'
as a member of the Roman Catholic Church I disagree with this but as someone who is transgender I can also agree.
From a religious point of view the phrase should be, 'I have a soul, therefore I think.'
As a transgender person, I completely understand distancing the mind and body so I propose that the self exists in three parts: mind, body, soul. Each of these is completely independent of the others and yet reliant on the others as a whole.
I completely disagree with Sigmund Freud's statement that dreams are how we handle all unconscious desires. Dreams are merely how we interpret stimulus. I dreamed once that my 10 month old baby brother was 14 years old and wanted to go through gender-realignment surgery. Do I unconsciously want this? No. I'd watched a documentary the previous evening episode one of Reggie Yates, Extreme UK - Gay and Under Attack. He spoke about his little brother who is around 14 years old. He interviewed a woman who was on the waiting list for gender-realignment surgery. Watching this affected the subject of my dreams.
